What Happened
In January 2021, specifically on January 6, the Indian wedding planning platform WedMeGood suffered a data breach attributed to the hacking group ShinyHunters, who dumped approximately 41.5 GB of stolen data on the dark web, affecting around 1.3 million users. The exposed information included names, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, genders, hashed passwords, and other personal details such as booking and activity records dating back to 2015. WedMeGood had not publicly verified the incident at the time, and the breach was added to major databases like Mozilla Monitor and Have I Been Pwned on May 13, 2021, after verification. This event followed a pattern of attacks by the same group on other Indian entities, with the data sold on underground forums.
