What Happened

In 2024, Hisense USA allegedly suffered a significant data breach when a threat actor claiming the username “Meow” posted samples of compromised customer data on the hacker forum BreachForums. The breach exposed approximately 579,777 records containing sensitive personal and product information from customers who had registered products, participated in warranty and service plans, or submitted customer service inquiries. The compromised data included customer names, emails, phone numbers, product serial numbers, purchase dates, retailer information, and registration details across multiple categories: over 213,000 product registration records, more than 348,000 TV QR code registration records, approximately 50,000 general customer inquiry entries, roughly 40,600 parts and service support records, close to 44,000 sweepstakes entries, and over 1,200 extended service plan records. While Hisense did not immediately confirm the breach’s authenticity, the highly structured and specific nature of the exposed data suggested a genuine compromise. The exposed information posed significant risks to customers, including potential targeted scams, phishing attempts, and unauthorized access, as threat actors could use the data to impersonate Hisense support or commit financial fraud.
