What Happened
Assurance IQ Data Breach (2022-2024): On March 4, 2024, Assurance IQ, LLC, a Seattle-based insurance company, disclosed a data breach affecting an unknown number of consumers after discovering that an employee had inappropriately used their credentials to access the company’s systems and shared consumer information for unauthorized purposes. The unauthorized access occurred between April 1, 2022 and January 11, 2024, during which time the employee accessed information belonging to policyholders, beneficiaries, and prospective customers. The exposed data included names, dates of birth, genders, addresses, incomes, occupations, heights, weights, life insurance policy numbers, life insurance plan or product types and coverage amounts, and health information. Upon discovering the breach on February 12, 2024, Assurance IQ immediately disabled the employee’s access, terminated their employment, and launched an investigation. The company subsequently sent data breach notification letters to all affected individuals beginning March 4, 2024.
