What Happened
In March 2022, specifically on March 5, the Turkish Minecraft server platform CraftRise suffered a data breach where hackers accessed and stole a 933MB database containing sensitive user information from over 2.5 million accounts, including email addresses, usernames, geographic locations, and plaintext passwords. The incident went undetected until May 2023, when hacker “frog” leaked the data on dark web forums like leakbase.io, prompting its addition to breach databases such as Have I Been Pwned and Mozilla Monitor in August 2023. This exposure posed significant risks for phishing, account takeovers, and identity theft, with no prior breach history for CraftRise reported.
