What Happened
In February 2019, the live-streaming platform YouNow suffered a data breach in which approximately 40 million user records were discovered for sale on a dark web marketplace. The exposed data included email addresses, IP addresses, names, usernames, and links to social media profiles, though no passwords were compromised since YouNow uses social media authentication rather than storing passwords directly. The breach was attributed to a hacker and discovered months later, with the incident added to breach databases in July 2019. While the exact date of the initial breach is unclear, it was publicly disclosed in February 2019 when the data appeared on the dark web.
